I'm going to do a quick survey here:
How many of you have ... lets say ... have Internet Explorer installed on your machines, just put your hands up.
Okay, about 85-90%. Keep your hands up if you use it regulaly.
Wow, about, yeah, 90% of you guys put your hands down.
So what do the rest of you guys use regulaly, Opera? yeah, thats okay. Safari? what, did that get installed when you upgraded iTunes or something? Oh, your on a Mac. I'll get to you later.
So what do the rest of you guys have installed?
Firefox, oh, there it is, yeah.
So what do you like best about it?
Less chance of viruses? ... Good point.
Customizable? ... Another very good point.
Quicker? yeah it is quicker than other browsers, well, Opera might have something to say about that but still.
Anyway back to the Internet Explorer crowd, well, trio.

Dual Boot is your best friend..
Most of the system builds in my household will at least dual boot between XP Pro and a varying Linux distribution - my 7 year old server, which is still going strong, is XP Pro and a Fedora Core box, works laptop is XP Pro/Ubuntu and my home laptop is triple booting XP Pro, Vista (for R&D, not out of choice) and Ubuntu. Oh, and a self booting USB pen drive with Damn Small Linux on, which I've begun to carry around with me at all times.
There are loads of reasons I still mainly live in XP Pro and can't switch fully to Linux, no matter how much I'd love to, and most of that is down to my current employment. That and Adobe monopolising their software for Windows and OSX...
Wine works perfectly for the remote access software we use too, its just I can't seem to get it working with the VPN elements, thus rendering it useless on anything other than local ranges.
The other main role I have is writing bespoke software solutions for our clients, all of whom use XP Pro so it would be kind of stupid to be using anything other than Visual Studio on a Windows box for most of the day... again, could work around this but "if it ain't broke"
My advise though is to burn the Ubuntu CD and give it a test drive in the Live mode (i.e. you can use a perfectly functioning Operating System _without_ having to install it). The full install DVD comes with every possible piece of software you'll ever need without having to pay a single penny/gamble downloading pirated software - that includes equivalent versions of Office, Photoshop, Premiere (video editing software), 3D CAD drawing, music creation, software development, media center software... the list goes on and on.
So...
It looks as if I'm preaching to the believers anyway.
