Even the Conservatives are completely off the mark this time, releasing in usual Say the Opposite and Jump on the Bandwagon style statement, saying they "would reverse Labour's approach to 24-hour drinking, replacing it with "appropriate application at local
discretion"".

Knowing how much Local Councils have no interest in the social aspect and will just see later opening times as a drain on Police services, this will be a complete reversal of drinking laws.

I'm sure there is a fine line between appeasing the public, the Governments interest in tax and the Local Councils resources, but this really is a select few ruining things for the rest of Britain.

I also call Bullshit on selected elements of this report. For one, Don Shenker the Chief Executive of Alcohol Concerns use of "facts and statistics" seem greatly overexaggerated :

"By the time [young people have] gone out, they're completely drunk, they're much more at risk of having an accident, of being a victim of a crime and that's causing around £7bn worth of cost to the police."

£7 billion? Seriously? You expect me to believe that drunkenness alone is costing police seven billion pounds outside of damages etc. That's over £115,000 per head in the UK!

Surely sir, you are talking utter bollocks?!

I'm sure what he's talking about here is the extensive 1984 branded CCTV network, the extra staff and the overall cost of policing the streets in the evening, money that they have to spend anyway. I mean what's the fucking beef here? Way to misquote and misrepresent facts to force your Fun Nazi Policing on us...

And the middle of that statement is misrepresenting the real issue here too - "much more at risk of being a victim of a crime". So you're trying to get people to stop drinking and going out so they're less of a risk of being a victim of a crime?! How does that represent anything other than a lack of policing of crime rather that of drinking related crime?

If you're going to wax intellectual about a topic, at least still to the facts rather than spinning a web of half truths to make the facts seem a lot worse than they are. The police at times should have more powers to punish antisocial behaviour, especially when dealing with repeat offenders. The trouble is, it also has to be realistic, policeable and fair.

Saying no to Happy Hour promotions isn't going to do anything other than piss off a load of hard up students, those people that will grow up to pay the most taxes and become the foundation of Intellectual Britain. You're also pissing off the Hard Working City types with the Work Hard Party Harder attitude that use happy hours as some much needed stress relief, to forget how we're being royally fucked Every Fucking Day by this nations love of taxation.

There isn't the simple solution to this that both the Labour and Conservative Parties seem to be looking for and at times, I wish they would stop trying to make things so Black and White. And to be honest, it _is_ hard to think of something so in the mean time, take another look at Gemma Atkinsons tits...
