I haven't raged this much in ages and was beginning to think I have no longer capable of it, but no, like a dormant volcano it was still waiting there to be released. All over Love Film, the bunch of conning, deceptive fuckers!
I was a Love Film subscriber for ages; I even used to write mini reviews of shitty games for them and everything was great until I wanted to cancel my service with them. For an online rental service, they make a point of deliberately being cunts about cancelling your subscription, making you ring an Indian call center and tell them 20 different times that you're not interested in their latest deals, just cancel my fucking account already!
The first time I tried I got a massive banner saying "Why not put your account on holiday mode" which was a good idea at the time so I did for 12 weeks and forgot all about it. This is how they get you, you see. When you get your 'next rental', 12 weeks down the line, you've forgotten about the service so the discs go on top of the cupboard and get lost in amongst junk mail and bills you forget to pay. 4 months down the line when you check your bank account statement, you see that you've been billed by Love Film for £14.99 a fucking month for 2 shitty games you didn't even want in the first place. FFfffuuuuu...
So yeah, I ring them up and try to cancel my account. After offering me another 20 services I'm getting ever more irate and tell the girl 'look, just cancel my fucking account already... I don't want to go on holiday, I don't want a DVD package, I don't even want just one game at £4.99 a month. I don't use the damn service, CANCEL MY ACCOUNT!'
"But sir, you have 14 days left of this month, why not use that service until 5 days before your billing date and then call us again to cancel then?"

I sent the discs back on the same fucking day after telling the girl where to shove her 14 days and cancel my account now, yet low and behold my bank account gets charged another £14.99 and another two discs are sat in my post, almost mocking me when I see them on my floor...
So I call the cunts back, one more fucking time. This time Ashak tries to get me to sign up to yet another package, even though my tone is audibly short and annoyed that I've been charged yet again. He explained the procedure that I was supposed to call them again 5 days before my billing date to confirm my cancellation as my account was only in the cancellation-pending state, and as I didn't, they rebilled me and sent me two more cunting games. I mean what the fuck is this shit, people?!
After 15 minutes of shouting and getting nowhere, I was told they had no intention of refunding my money and I had to go through the same bullshit again this month to cancel my account.
Fuck Love Film. Fuck them in their stupid asses. I hate them more than black people hate white people and muslims hate depictions of the prophet Mohammed. They are lying, cheating cunts that probably make millions from falsely billing people for another month thinking that it will be too much hassle to chase them after such a small amount like £15 and for that I hate them. A lot.

When I cancelled mine, I had one game left that I couldn't find the case for, I requested a new case and they said it was being delivered.
2 months down the line (uncharged, I had requested a new debit card so they couldn't charge me), I get a letter from dept collectors saying I owe them £50 - considering I would have only been billed about £20, that was total bollocks, I sent the game back in a mega tatty, twice-used envelope, phoned up the dept collectors and told them where to stick their letter, four months later I have heard nothing of either of them, apart from spam mail from Lovefilm saying 'We miss you, get 2 months free when you re-sign on'.

New to this site, and happy to have found this thread about LoveFilm. I was stung by them a couple of years ago. Totally crap company sending out mutilated discs that don't play. Even though I told them where to stick their shit service, I still get their letters offering free trial periods. Piss off.
I use CinemaParadiso for my BluRays now, pretty good, always in good condition and always quick turnaround. The name of the company could do with being changed I think, but the service isn't bad. But just waiting for the day they piss me off though. But hope that day doesn't come as I really would not want to use LoveFilm again.

Just some advice...I have closed my account before quite successfully. Lovefilm don't want you to know this but here's how i did it...
1, Clear off your rental list so its COMPLETELY empty.
2, Send back all dvd/games.
3, Make sure all dvds/games are back at Lovefilm by checking on your account on the website.
4, If you try to cancel when you have no discs at home and none in transit, the site will not direct you to the call center at all, you will be asked "are you sure you want to cancel". Then you are sent an automated email and have to click the link contained within to close the account.
THAT'S how they get you. They automatically send you discs that are on your list so that technically you are using the service. You try to cancel, but discs are in the post or at home, and they've got reason to bill you. That's why they tell you "Lovefilm works best when you have at least 10 titles on your list".
Hopefully I can alleviate some of the misery this company inflicts on people by posting this information. Oh and by the way, I hate the bastards as much as the next person, and believe me I will be finding employment elsewhere as soon as possible, but when one has children, needs must!

I've had Lovefilm at numerous address' and have only had to ring them once. As I said, you can cancel online IF YOU HAVE NO DISCS at home. Fair enough really, it would be stupid to have a closed account if you still had their property.
As for being an employee HAHA, just accept there are some people out there that actually use them rather than just being out for anything free, then getting annoyed when they/you forget to cancel and end up getting charged. As I said, if it was that big of a deal to you, it takes 1 phone call to your bank to cancel a card, they'll have a replacement to you in a couple of days.
It does make me wonder, why did you not delete the things off your Lovefilm if you didn't want anything anymore?? It sounds like you just forgot and now you're just too stubborn to admit it.

Again, please explain to me how am I trying to get anything for free? I couldn't give two shits about anything Love Film have to offer, I am just pointing out a massive shortfall in their cancellation system that their software obviously handles this way to extract money out of leaving customers.. being a Software Developer myself, this can only happen by design, hence being pissed off.
Regardless whether or not I have discs in my list or not, if I ring up to cancel my service the software system should do this and clear down my account. If I cant cancel my account without doing this, why did the call center not tell me 'oh sir, we see you have X discs in your account pending, until you clear these down your account will remain active, regardless of the phone call to cancel'.
When someone tells you that they have cancelled my account and all I need to do is just send back the discs, why would I question that and think 'you know what, I think I had 4 discs in my account that I told them I might want next... perhaps rather than cancel my account, they'll just send the next discs out instead'.Why would I also ring my bank and cancel my perfectly functional card just in case the service I had just cancelled and been told that all I needed to do was return two discs in the post in the next 3 weeks prior to my next billing date, just in case Royal Mail didn't get them there in time.

I love LOVEFiLM, they are great and it's an excellent service. Not once have I had a bad disc from them and I pretty much always get my top priority discs. There's a reason their customer base is growing massively year on year and they keep winning awards...
Oh, and FYI - their call centre is not based in India, but in the UK - one of the few companies that does this - and they are not nearly bankrupt. AND, almost all other home delivery DVD rental companies use LOVEFiLM through white lable. So you can cancel and join another one, but it will probably be through them again.

What had I just done! The films don't stream properly and freeze half way through and the selection is ... well, a bit shit.
Having decided to cancel my account, I have been batted back to a phone line that either doesn't answer or - when it does - connects you to a guy that tells you that they are too busy right now and ask you to call 2 hours later, I have now tried this several times ....
Sounds like a con to me ... I'm going on holiday and will be away when my first payment goes through ... I want to cancel before this happens ... and being tied to a 12 months contract.

I've tried calling the cancellation number 3 times now (throughout this past week) and have not yet had a call answered. They drop you to a voicemail service telling you to leave your name and number and they'll get back to you within 2 hours. Not had a single call back from them.
I cleared my list off and all discs have been returned so I'm not sure why I shouldn't be able to cancel online any time other than they want a chance at retention. Given that they've been unresponsive I was seriously considering reporting them to a trading standards body and instructing my bank to decline their requests for payment.
I've not really had any other problems with them, I just don't use the service enough to warrant 14.99/mo. I was hoping that the quality of the online streaming would be better than the free one but quite frankly the encoding quality (or lack thereof) on some films make them nigh on unwatchable. (See "The Hurt Locker" as an example).
Also, to the gorm above that suggested cancelling a card, it's not just "cancel your card and order another" as, if you have other services using your card you then have to go and update those too. Took me at least a day to get all my stuff in order last time my card changed.
