Ubuntu updates
So, I've downloaded the beta release of the new Ubuntu OS 8.04 Hardy Heron. I'll write some propaganda for it on the 25th ( The actual full release date. )
With it being in beta you would expect some updates, and there are some, but I know when my bandwidth is going to be used by them, unlike Windows Update, and that it won't be used to update internet explorer, also unlike Windows Update.
Anyway, I went to on an over-night rip to York. ( I'll write about that soon. ) And imagine my face when I came back, and checked how many updates I needed, well, lets put it this way, it's still checking, it's been going for about 10 minutes so far, I'll write how many when it finishes.

73 updates, totaling over 163 Mb. Oh God.
Anyway, I'm off to download them, and ( as I said earlier ) I'll write about the trip to York soon.

Dazed and Confused
Where's the anger? Where's the fire? At least when I posted I had fire in my belly and controversy on my breath, even if it was controversy for being crap.
Anyways, 163mb? I think at one point using the Beta (let's be Ubuntu buddies!) it was a fair bit more than that.
Either way not good. Although 5 minutes to check yer updates, you sure you're internet connection isn't dying?

Why are operating systems inflating in size so much!!!
163MB of updates! That's nearly as big as Win95 ! The way I look at it OSs don't really do anything significantly new from Win95 so why does Vista take up something like 10 GIG! Surely all the crippleware in Vista doesn't eat up the extra 9 and a half gig since XP?
Ubuntu only needs 4 GB
I mean, when you put it in context next to Windows 95 anythings going to look big.
You could say that Windows 95 was too big, MS DOS could fit on a floppy disk!
